A large crystal chandelier as your dining room lighting may look elegant but it will overwhelm  a small dining area so choose a smaller and simpler one. This doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice the style though. You can opt for dining lights that express your personality while still fulfilling the dining room’s lighting needs. For small rooms, you can choose between glass and metal pendant lights. Glass and metal fixtures have become very popular. Glass pendant lights are good alternative to crystal chandeliers and are perfect for smaller areas while metal pendant lights are less expensive yet highly durable. It is also important to consider the size of your dining table. If you have small dining table, don’t choose dining light that is bigger than the table!

Choosing the right finish must be considered as well. This is one important design element that is always overlooked. The finish of your dining light must complement the wall color, interiors and furnishings of your dining area. If you want to kill the monotony, don’t be afraid to go bolder by contrasting the colors, just don’t overdo it.

Have variety of light sources. Additional light fixtures such as wall scones and recessed wall or ceiling lights will help to control the illumination and create different ambiance in your dining room that will suit your mood or any occasion.
