There used to be a time when we could roam the streets at night without fear of getting mugged or hurt. Then street crimes became more rampant and night strolls became dangerous. Unfortunately, criminals have become bolder and fearless that we feel unsafe even in our own homes. Though we want only the best protection for our family, the latest and most advanced home security systems can be very expensive and may even require renovating some sections of your house. Thankfully, there are home security DIY projects you can do to deter criminals without spending more than you can afford.
Lock Works. The first DIY project that you can do is to add more locks. Doors leading into the house must have deadbolts aside from the usual knob locks. In choosing a deadbolt, opt for one that has a throw bolt which is very secure. Of course, a heavy duty lock would be useless on a light-duty door so make sure that doors are sturdy.
Light Up. Install motion sensors near doors and windows or where people are most likely to pass going to your house. When anyone comes close and triggers these sensors, lights will automatically turn on and illuminate the surrounding. This would definitely scare off would-be intruders.
Camera Proof. Security cameras installed both outside and inside establishments have helped authorities identify and catch criminals. Naturally, criminals are wary of breaking into a house that has security cameras set up. There are many home security diy camera systems that you can set up quite easily. All you need is an internet connection, wi-fi router, and a file storage device. Some camera systems even allow you to monitor your home remotely. That means you can check on everyone even if you are on vacation miles away from home. Still can’t afford a camera system? Just set up fake ones outside the house and they’ll do the trick of deterring intruders.
Doing these home security DIY projects may not totally protect your home from intruders but these criminals would certainly think twice before trying to break into your home. These projects require only a bit of your time and do not cost too much. If you have not done any of these yet, set one weekend to do them and make your family feel more secure in the comfort of your own home.
